Meet Mr Mousse. A delightful raw dessert that you can literally whip up in a few minutes flat.
There’s no eggs, butter, sugar or cream in this bad boy. You don’t have to melt any chocolate in microwaves (hello radiation and electric magnetic emissions!), you don’t have to madly beat eggs into foamy peaks, and you don’t have to wait for it to set in the fridge.
So what is in it then? And how do you make it? Well, the secret, healthy main ingredient is Avocado, and the only method of preparation is to blend. Super simple, right?
Avocados are already naturally creamy and their mild taste means it takes on the flavours of the cacao and the dates quite seamlessly. Raw cacao powder adds nutritional punch and it’s naturally sweetened with pure maple syrup and soft, caramel-esque Medjool dates. Add some berries and you’ll be falling pretty hard for Mr Mousse!
Avocado
An awesome dairy free alternative for creamy desserts. Avocados are high in oleic acid, which has been shown in studies to help prevent breast cancer. They also help lower cholesterol levels, and contain high levels of folate. A diet high in folate will help protect against heart disease. Finally, when you combine avocados with other healthful foods, they cleverly help you absorb nutrients better.
Raw Cacao
Raw cacao powder is one of the richest sources of antioxidants available to us, helping prevent oxidative damage. It has beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system, and may help increase 'good' HDL cholesterol, support the integrity of blood vessels, help reduce hypertension and inhibit platelet aggregation. It is a fantastic source of magnesium, a mineral that is required for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. It is also a key nutrient needed in energy production. Finally, cacao is a well-known mood elevator, thanks to compounds that act directly on the central nervous system.
Dates
A natural sugar alternative rich in vitamins and minerals. Dates, like prunes, are a known remedy for constipation, thanks to their high dietary fibre. Choose the soft juicy Medjool ones – they taste just like caramel.
Berries
Berries are low in sugar super high in antioxidants, and when combined with raw, organic cacao powder, something alchemical happens, and the absorption rate of those available antioxidants doubles.
Hemp milk
A deliciously creamy alternative to cow’s milk. Hemp is a source of complete protein, and contains the perfect ratios of the omega-3-6-9 essential fatty acids.
