ie water\/aloe)<\/li>\n<li>Teaspoons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Homemade face cream ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>Again, these ingredients have all been chosen for their suitability to oily, problem skin.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"format-tight-small\">&#128738; Oil phase<\/h3>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>Calendula infused oil&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Calendula officinalis<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calendula is one of THE top skin herbs, its reduces inflammation, soothes the skin, promotes healing of wounds and acne scars<\/li>\n<li>Typically in herbal medicine making we use extra virgin olive oil as a carrier when making salves, and a lighter, more neutral oil when making skin care products<\/li>\n<li>You can infuse calendula in any of the lighter carrier oils suited to oily skin: camellia, borage, sea buckthorn, strawberry<\/li>\n<li>To make it, fill a jar with dried calendula flowers and petals, cover with carrier oil, cap, leave to infuse for a couple of weeks or more out of direct light, then strain ready for use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>Camellia oil <em>Camellia oleifera<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Very light in texture<\/li>\n<li>Regenerative, restorative<\/li>\n<li>Suitable for all skin types, including oily and problem skin<\/li>\n<li>Possesses antioxidant, disinfectant, germicidal properties<\/li>\n<li>Contains squalene &ndash; Water phase<\/h3>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>Aloe Vera Juice&nbsp;<\/strong><em>Aloe barbadensis<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soothing, cooling<\/li>\n<li>Anti-inflammatory<\/li>\n<li>Wound healing<\/li>\n<li>Rich in antioxidants<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\">Known as the &lsquo;plant of immortality&rsquo;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"format-tight-small\">Once combined\/emulsified<\/h3>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>Microcare DB<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is a preservative &ndash; a blend of an organic acid with benzyl alcohol<\/li>\n<li>Preservatives are recommended to prevent microbial growth, and promote shelf life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>doTERRA manuka essential oil<\/strong> <em>Leptospermum scoparium<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promotes the appearance of smooth, healthy skin<\/li>\n<li>Rich, spicy, sweet, herbaceous aroma<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"format-tight-small\"><strong>Licorice root extract<\/strong> <em>Glycyrrhiza glabra<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Optional &ndash; it&rsquo;s likely this will be tricky to source, we&rsquo;re talking an alcohol fluid extract\/tincture. Try a trip to a local herbal dispensary. For external use only, in the recommended amounts<\/li>\n<li>Anti-inflammatory<\/li>\n<li>Brightens skin, reduces hyperpigmentation and evens out skin tone<\/li>\n<li>Mildly anti-androgenic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"format-tight-small\">Making face cream, step by step<\/h2>\n<p>First - use your alcohol based sanitiser to sterilise all your equipment - from utensils to jugs to glass jars - everything!<\/p>\n<p>Next, use the precision scales to weigh out all the ingredients for the oil phase, and place in a glass pyrex jug or similar.<\/p>\n<p>Weigh out the aloe vera juice for the water phase - you may need regular kitchen digital scales for this.<\/p>\n<p>Rest both jugs in a large saucepan, then add boiling water - until it just reaches the same height as the ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>You'll want to keep a candy thermometer or two on hand - we're going to bring the temperature up to&nbsp;65-70&#730;C (149-158&#730;F) so the emulsifying wax completely melts. At this point, stop, let it cool a little, blend again - you'll notice it really starts to thicken and fluff up.
