Here is a powerfully anti-inflammatory smoothie that you can whip up in a jiffy if you’re feeling like you need some soothing.
The staring acts are flaxseeds, cherries, strawberries and cinnamon. Here’s a little more on why their superpowers are so potent:
I’ve talked a bit about flaxseeds in previous posts, but as a quick recap, they are very high in the anti-inflammatory essential fatty acid, omega-3. They are especially helpful for treating inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis.
Cherries are a fantastic anti-inflammatory food as they are low in sugar (highly inflammatory) and high in natural flavonoids called anthocyanidins. Anthocyanidins are the pigment that gives cherries their gorgeous deep rouge. They ease inflammation by blocking the pain messages being sent in the body, just like ibuprofen, though completely toxin free. Cherries also contain melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate sleep.
Also low in sugar, yet high in powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidants. They have a positive impact on circulation, helping blood flow nice and freely. If strawberries are tricky to find, use frozen ones instead – in fact these may be even better, adding a nice icy texture to the smoothie.
Cinnamon is a warming spice that aids digestion and eases inflammation. It helps to relieve pain and stiffness in your muscles and joints. These anti-inflammatory properties come from the essential oils found within its bark. Also particularly useful for relief from Arthritis and Osteoarthritis.

Anti-inflammatory Fire Fighter Smoothie

- 1 cup spinach
- ½ cup strawberries
- ½ cup frozen cherries
- 1 tablespoon flaxseeds
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1 cup almond milk
Blend everything well, serve and soothe.
